Industry; Glass manufacturing.
Outcome; Reduced the cost of the original part from $800 US dollars to $115 Australian dollars. Reduced delivery times from 2 months to 7 working days.
Original Issues and Problems: The original equipment supplied to the client had an inspection station for glass containers to spin on hardened steel plates. The steel plates had a life span of 8-12 months. The aggressive wearing of the glass ripple on the underneath of the container continually destroyed the hardened stell plate.
Alternative Solution; Understanding the application and the cost involved to replace the steel plate ($800 USD) we developed a number of prototype plates in various materials we felt would handle the glass container’s abrasive nature.
Alternative skill; We have an understanding of what materials are best suited to certain applications. The diagnosis was that we needed to manufacture a part that had a similar rigidity to the original steel plate but reduce friction. We also had a second tier direction to dramatically reduce the cost of the component.
