Understanding clients needs.

As a manufacturing facility we require numerous parts and components from suppliers. Finding suppliers who are proactive about understanding our needs is critical.

Similarly, solving problems is one of the most important parts of our relationship with our clients. Understanding what you do and our role in the process; being able to source the right fit is vital.

Dealing with suppliers who are disinterested in your business or problem solving can lead to poor and unproductive business.

An Example of Poor Supplier Service

Recently, we manufactured audio visual advertising units for a leading Australian advertising company: vizoo.com.au.

Part of our role in assisting ambient with the manufacture of the units required toughened glass. The glass supplied came with a large toughened stamp on the panels making them unusable. This is a typical example of a supplier who has a low level of involvement with its customer.

Our recent research shows that poor suppliers commonly exhibit:

1. Low level of involvement - They are disinterested in how they can add value to their client’s products.

2. Low product knowledge - Their ability to assist and make positive suggestions to their clients is minimal.

3. Low pricing - They use price as the key selling tool and basis of the relationship.
